Black Tea Lattes: Great for the Keto/Low-Carb Lifestyle

I, like many others, try to watch my carb intake for the most part. You will know from my blog posts and upcoming cook book that I am not completely restrictive though.

One delicious thing that I found to be great on a lower carb diet are black tea lattes. They are just good in general! I thought I would do a post about these yummy drinks and maybe you can try them too.

Why black tea instead of coffee?

For a caffeine kick, most people like to go the coffee route. There are some people who do not want all of the caffeine that it contains so they either have decaf coffee or drink tea.

When it comes to the caffeine in camellia sinensis teas, black tea has the most. One cup of it will give you about 50 mg of caffeine versus the 25-40 mg that the other types boast. Coffee in comparison to tea, has around 100 mg of caffeine per cup.

Another thing about black tea is that it is heartier than the other teas. The flavor is richer and more like coffee. This may make switching over to tea from coffee easier.

Why a black tea latte may be yummy

Because all of the different types of black tea is more coffee-like than the other teas, it lends itself better to the addition of milk and cream. Due to this, there are many tea companies that come out with "dessert" tea flavor blends with black tea as the base.

These "dessert" black tea blends are flavored with a variety of things to make a drinkable treat. They call them dessert teas because they may satisfy sweet cravings without a high amount of calories.

Having a black tea latte may indeed have calories in them but they will have less than things like cake, cookies, ice cream etc. while possibly tasting similar.

One can also use green or oolong tea for a tea latte but just note that they might not be as rich and flavorful. Using white tea will be even less so.

Making a black tea latte

These are really easy to make. All you need is black tea, heavy cream/milk/half & half, sweetener (if you wish) and a mug!

There are so many delicious black tea blends from a variety of brands. Pick one that sounds the best to you so that you can keep it around and use regularly. The following are some delicious black tea options that you should consider:

  1. Bigelow Salted Caramel

  2. Bigelow French Vanilla

  3. Bigelow Vanilla Caramel

  4. Celestial Seasonings Sweet Harvest Pumpkin

  5. Tazo Vanilla Bean Macaron

  6. Tazo Organic Sultry Strawberry

  7. Any Earl Grey tea

  8. Any regular black tea

Just steep a cup of tea for the recommended amount of time, add sweetener and 1/4 cup of milk/heavy cream/ half & half. There you have it- a wonderful drink to sip on!

How I like my black tea lattes

As of late I have been enjoying black tea lattes with Bigelow Salted Caramel, heavy cream and sucralose. I also pair it with a Nathan's hot dog for a filling and delicious meal.

In the near future, I plan on trying some of the dessert teas (and other ones!) from Plum Deluxe because they look delicious!

Give it a shot!

We all have our own likes and dislikes, but I think at least one of you reading my blog may find black tea lattes delicious. If you try to make one yourself, let me know what black tea you used and if you liked it or not!

Thanks for reading!
