If you are a regular tea drinker, you may find that your mugs get stained. Fortunately there is a great way to get rid of these stains and restore the mugs back to their original color.
Read on if you want to find out a easy and cheap way to get rid of those unsightly stains!
What is causing the stains?
Tea has substances called, tannins, in it. These are also extracted and used to tan certain things.
If you heard about tea causing one's body to not absorb iron properly when drank in large amounts, tannins are the reason why. They also may be the cause of stomach irritation in some (ever tried drinking green or black tea on a completely empty stomach? Just don't).
Due to the fact that tannins are actually used for adding color, they are the reason as to why stains may be left on your mug. If you continuously let the tannins stain the mug without doing something about it, the difficulty in getting it off may increase.
Easy way to get rid of the staining
You might find that if you simply just try putting the mugs into the dishwasher, the stains will not come off. An easy way to get them off is to use *drum roll*
Baking soda!
Yes people, baking soda and water is all you need to get your mugs clean. Baking soda is also great for general house cleaning and deodorizing.
Here is what you do:
Get out your baking soda! It is an essential thing to have around your house.
Take the mug (or mugs) with the stains and rinse it. You want the inside to be a little wet.
Spread a layer of baking soda onto the inside of the mug, covering the stains. If the baking soda is not sticking well, add a couple droplets of water.

4. Let the mug (or mugs) with the baking soda sit for a while (I do about 30 minutes).
5. When the mug (or mugs) is ready, wipe (with a paper or a hand towel) or brush off the baking soda that you spread inside the mug. The stains will go with it! Rinse the, to get all of the baking soda off the insides.
Voila! A clean mug again! See, wasn't that super easy? You can do that on other surfaces and stains in your home as well.
A great quick fix
The tea stains in your mug are easy to get off with this baking soda trick. Now that you know how to do this, you should never have brown stains for an extended period of time anymore.
