Academics

Children who attend Forward Leap can either come with their own curricula to use or we can provide the curricula for them. Check out what we do and use per subject.

Math

Children are given a complete and thorough mathematical education so that there are no gaps in their knowledge of the subject. The curriculum used at Forward Leap will include Math Mammoth, Evan-Moor (for the younger children) and IXL. Touch Math will be used for children who are struggling.

Reading/Phonics

Learning to read is quite the process. Children will be going through a phonics curriculum, listening to me read, reading to each other when they are able and doing learning activities. Each child will be using the All About Reading curriculum at their own level and pace along with IXL. They will also be working on reading comprehension 1:1 with Laura.

Writing

Being able to express one's self through writing is still an important skill to learn. We will be using the Handwriting Without Tears in whatever level each child is at, doing daily prompts and journaling if a child is ready for it. Tracing will be done if a student needs some extra help with forming the letters.

Language Arts/Spelling

Grammar, vocabulary and spelling are very important when it comes to writing and reading. We will be using Flash Harcourt Language Arts/Spelling, Spectrum Language Arts/Spelling, IXL and learning activities. All About Spelling will be used for children who are struggling.

Science

We provide a STEM education and activities. We will also include a unit on computer science! We believe this is necessary for all children's future. Various resources will be used and experiments/projects will be done as a group.

Social Studies/ Geography

Children at Forward Leap will be learning about their community, the world, maps, historical people/events and mental health. Various resources will be used. No "indoctrination" will happen.

Art

Students will learn about the different aspects of art and do various projects. We will be using Evan-Moor's art curriculum books and books with fun art projects.

P.E.

Moving our bodies and working on gross motor skills are really important. Each month we will be focusing on different types of movements, sports and exercises. We will be using curriculum from P.E. Central and will also do kid's workout videos.

Music

Forward Leap students will learn about musical concepts. We will use the Teaching Music to Children and 101 Music Games For Children curriculum books.

Technology

In addition to the children doing IXL daily for the core subjects, they will also be using some or all of the following technology/sites:

Prodigy reading and math (math and reading games)
Starfall (learning games site)
Khan Academy (learning site)
Math Mammoth online (math activities and extra practice)
Learning songs on YouTube (i.e. Jack Hartmann)
