Accommodations
At Forward Leap, will be making the effort to provide learning accommodations for students who are neurodiverse and/or have health issues . The following are specific diagnoses that will be accommodated at the school:
Autism
Learners who have been diagnosed with autism (formerly PDD-NOS, Asperger's and high functioning autism in particular) are guided with various supports that will address the challenges that come along with it. This includes helping with issues pertaining to social communication, anxiety, fine-motor skills and sensory processing.
Please note that it will only be one adult in the room working with the students so this won't be the right setting for children who are on the lower end of the spectrum and/or have high behaviors.
Dysgraphia
This diagnosis causes learners to have difficulty with aspects of writing. At Forward Leap, the student will get help with fine motor issues, work on reading/spelling skills that may be getting in the way of learning, use worksheets, have extra time, take dysgraphia Outschool classes and use Handwriting Without Tears.
Dyslexia
Students dealing with dyslexia will learn reading skills by way of the All About Reading curriculum. It Uses the Orton-Gillingham educational apporach meaning that it is multisensory and structured. We will also use extra reading games/manipulatives and Outschool when necessary.

Dyscalculia
Math is very challenging for learners with dyscalcuila. Fortunately there are ways to help them. We will start out with using the Math Mammoth curriculum along with manipulatives, games and Outschool. If that curriculum doesn't seem to be the right match for them, we will switch to using Touch Math which is great for children with dyscalculia.
ADHD/ADD
ADHD and ADD can make time in the classroom difficult for learners who are diagnosed with them. They can cause one to be overly active, talk too much, be disorganized, get distracted a lot and more. At Forward Leap, they will be supported so that they can be successful. Things like breaking tasks down into smaller steps, allowing multiple brain breaks, letting them do their work on the carpet, teaching them about staying organized, using fidgets and more- will be done.
Anxiety
This can be part of many disorders. If it is a standalone diagnosis in children at Forward Leap- they will be well supported.. Things like letting them ease into their day, providing encouragement and creating a daily schedule for them.- will be implemented.
