I Need to Be Low-Carb

As a PCOS sufferer, I have read many websites, blogs and forums about the condition. Diet is a very common thing that is brought up in the treatment of it. This is an area I really need to work on! #pcosawareness

Most of us are insulin resistant

It is mentioned a lot that women with PCOS usually have insulin resistance as well. To treat this condition, many find that a low carb diet will reverse it. I am struggling with this so much.

Every time I make a plan of reducing the amount of carbs I eat in a day, I always fall off the bandwagon right away. Case in point, yesterday I ate Mac and Cheese as well as a couple of granola bars. I know that I need to nip that in the bud not only for the grams of carbs but also because it is processed food.

Although I do not have some of the signs of insulin resistance (ex. I do not gain weigh/fat around my waist, my periods are very regular), I do believe I experience blood sugar dips a couple days before my periods. This most likely indicates that I have some degree of it.

I do not plan to do keto because it does not seem sustainable for me. What I want to do is keep trying to reduce my carbs. I must do it in order to ward off a diabetes diagnosis in the future. #lowcarb

Some women have said that they also have had a decrease in their PCOS symptoms when going low carb. I am very curious to see if my occasional acne and excess facial hair will go away.

Intermittent fasting

I have been doing intermittent fasting (16:8) for a few months now. This type of eating is said to help with improving one's sensitivity to insulin ( see here: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2019/07/190702152749.htm). I wonder if because of doing this, I am already reducing my chances of getting diabetes?

I love intermittent fasting and don't plan on quitting it anytime soon. Other women with PCOS have also had success with it too. Some were only able to lose weight when they added it to their low carb diet. #intermittentfasting

In conclusion

I am going to be trying my hardest to stick with a low carb diet in addition to doing

Chicken and broccoli....my favorite meal!

intermittent fasting. My plan is to come up with easy, budget-friendly meal plans and possibly post them to the blog. I will also be making posts that provide updates regarding how I am doing on my diet. #health
