Enhancing the Learning at Forward Leap with IXL

There are different opinions about the use of technology in education. A small number of parents don't like its usage in a school setting but at Forward Leap- we believe it has its place.

There are some great learning programs that can be used and one of these is called, IXL. In this post, I will be discussing what IXL is and why it will be part of each child's curriculum.

What is IXL?

IXL is a digital learning platform that is for students from kindergarten through grade 12. It offers a personalized curriculum covering math, English language arts, science, social studies, and Spanish.

Students get their own accounts that adapt to their individual needs. They start off with an assessment on where they are academically and then the platform comes up with a personalized plan for them from there.

The students work on their own skills and earn points, stamps and prizes as they correctly answer questions/problems and obtain mastery. This is to keep them motivated. The platform also adjusts the difficulty level as children increase their skills and abilities.

IXL tracks the progress of students and then provides the analytics that show the parent or teacher their scores and how they are doing.

IXL can be used at home or school with the price varying. It is available on any computer, tablet and phone.

IXL at Forward Leap

Here’s why we’ve chosen to incorporate IXL into our learning community:

1. Personalized Learning at Its Best

  • Adaptive Learning: IXL adapts to each student’s unique needs. Whether they’re struggling or excelling, the platform adjusts the difficulty level to provide an optimal learning experience.

  • Real-Time Diagnostics: The diagnostic assessment helps us understand where each student stands in terms of grade-level proficiency. This data informs our teaching strategies.

  • Actionable Analytics: IXL provides detailed analytics, allowing us to track progress, identify areas of improvement, and celebrate achievements.

2. Comprehensive Coverage

  • Math and Language Arts: From pre-K to grade 12, IXL covers a wide range of topics in math (equations, graphing, fractions) and language arts (grammar, vocabulary).

  • Science and Social Studies: Children in grade 2 can have access to IXL’s science and social studies content.

  • Spanish Learning: Level 1 Spanish skills are also available. If you want your child signed up to learn Spanish, just let me know and that will be part of their academic day!

3. Supporting Personalized Learning Plans

  • IXL’s curriculum base, real-time diagnostics, and individualized guidance goes along with my mission and goals of the Forward Leap learning community.

  • Whether in the classroom or at home, IXL supports personalized learning plans. If a student is not going to be attending Forward Leap during the summer, they can do some IXL work at home to reduce learning loss.

Conclusion

IXL is more than just a tool for the learning community; it serves as a dynamic partner that boosts student engagement, monitors progress, and nurtures a passion for learning.
