Hormonal Nausea

This sucks! If any of you reading this have to experience nausea at certain times during your cycle, you probably feel the same way. In this post I just wanted to discuss it a bit more and give some product recommendations that might help reduce the feeling.

My story with hormonal nausea

Before pregnancy, I did not have problems with nausea throughout the month. During my first trimester I had mild to moderate evening sickness. It went away for the second and third trimester which was great.

About eight months after I gave birth to my son, my nausea kicked back up again. First, I would have severe nausea the two days before I would get my period. Then eventually I ended up having to deal with it the entire week of my fertility window (especially severe on day 14 of my cycle) and the three days before my period.

It is horrible and has affected my life so much. I was not able to be a reliable home daycare provider because I kept having to close due to how sick I felt. I also have missed out on a lot of family time due to it.

I have gone to doctors about it and have gotten numerous tests done. All of them have come out negative for everything. That is how I know it is all hormonal.

I was prescribed three different types of birth control and they all gave me horrible side effects. They were supposed to help balance my hormones so that maybe I wouldn't feel so nauseous. Unfortunately, I was unable to continue taking them as they made everything worse.

Why do some women have to deal with hormonal nausea?

Some of us are just really sensitive to hormonal fluctuations that happen during our cycle. That is the easiest way for me to describe it as I am not a scientist or a doctor.

Women with PCOS have hormones that are more messed up than women who don't have it. This could mean that these fluctuations happen more often which causes more days of nausea. I think that this is the case for me.

There are specific days according to the hormone horoscope app (see here: www.myhormonology.com) that might cause women to experience nausea and digestive issues. These days are day 23 and 27 of our cycles.

I have read that the day of ovulation can cause nausea for some women too. So far I have never read about women getting it the entire fertile window week every month. I guess that is just something I deal with.

Ways to take the edge off

I have found some products that help lessen the severity of the nausea. These are things that I would recommend others to try when dealing with it. Here they are:

1. Nauzene brand products ( https://www.nauzene.com/#section-product-detail-products)- They come in chewable tablets and syrup. The boxes say it takes only four minutes to kick in but I find it is more like 20 minutes.

2. Pink Stork Mist Magnesium Spray ( https://pinkstork.com/product/mist-during-pregnancy/)- This works wonderfully for me. I spray it on my torso, wrists, neck and feet.

3. Beeyoutiful Tummy Tuneup Jr. Extra Strength probiotics (https://www.beeyoutiful.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=tummytuneupjrextrastrength)- These are chewable probiotics. They really settle the stomach and taste great! Tummy Tuneups also come in capsules filled with the powder but I feel like the chewables work the best for me.

4. Motion sickness bands ( https://www.amazon.com/ROSENICE-Motion-Sickness-Bands-Acupressure/dp/B07HF5HTFV/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=motion+sickness+bands&qid=1572368331&sr=8-7)- I used to put these on when I was really sick. I don't know if they actually help or not but I was willing to try everything. It is definitely worth a shot though.

6. Vitamin B6 and Unisom (tablet form) combination- Combining these two things is what a lot of women with morning sickness use to find relief. I decided to use this combination a couple of years ago and I have found that it is essential when I am really suffering. Since the sickness is worse int he evening, I end up taking a full Unisom tablet and 50 mg of vitamin b6. During the day I might need to take half of a unisom to get by.

7. Anti-emetics from online pharmacies (like www.alldaychemist.com)- These are high powered and can really help take the edge off of your nausea. I buy them online because my doctor will not prescribe it for me and if he would I would probably only get five pills a month. Maybe other doctors are different though.

Another idea: Mix some ginger powder with a dose of Nauzene syrup. Works very well.

In conclusion

I am not a scientist or a medical professional so I don't know everything about why some women like me suffer from so much nausea during their cycles. It is really unfortunate that we have to deal with it and I wish there was a cure! I am really hoping that the products I listed will work for other people.
